Boogalou BBQ

Boogalou BBQ started in 1977 and had a humble beginning, but after 25 years of watching people have an absolute love for the taste of our family’s BBQ recipe we felt it was time to share it with the rest of the world. It all started in Owensboro, Kentucky a Barbeque Mecca dating back to the late 1800’s when Catholic churches started barbequing to raise money for their parishes, a tradition that continues to this day.

In Owensboro we have what is called a barbeque season that starts with our BBQ Fest which brings in as many as 80,000 in the second week of May. Then each of the local catholic churches holds its own barbeques each Saturday throughout the summer and ends with the Kentucky State BBQ championship the last weekend of September.

The Owensboro-Daviess county Grillin and Chillin BBQ cook off was founded by Boogalou BBQ and is our contribution to Owensboro’ s great barbeque heritage. The cook off is a Kansas City barbeque society, nationally sanctioned, event that has more than $10,000 in prize money, and put Owensboro on the BBQ circuit map.
